Anyone can claim to be licensed. In California you can confirm it in under a minute on the Contractors State License Board website, and you should do that for every contractor you consider, including us. This page shows you how and explains what the record actually tells you.

Aguila Construction Inc is a California corporation licensed since November 20, 2008, with Paul V. Aguilar as the qualifying individual. Paul answers the phone and handles the estimate, and the license he qualifies is the one that will be on your contract and your permit.

How to look up a license

Go to the CSLB Check a License page. You can search by the license number, the business name or the name of a person on the license. The license number is the most exact search; for Aguila, enter 925152. CSLB notes the database is down for maintenance from Sunday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m.

You can also call CSLB at (800) 321-2752. If a contractor will not give you a license number, or the name on the record does not match the name on the bid, stop there.

What each part of the record means

The license detail page has a handful of lines that matter for a homeowner. Read them in this order.

Reading a CSLB license record
LineWhat it tells you
Business name and entityWho you would be contracting with. It should match the name on the bid and the contract.
License statusWhether the license is current and active today. Anything else, such as expired or suspended, means the contractor cannot legally take your job.
ClassificationsWhat work the license covers. B means General Building, the class for projects that combine unrelated trades. A single-trade job needs that trade's specialty class.
Workers' compensationEither a policy on file or an exemption. An exemption means the contractor certified it has no employees, so ask who will do the work and how they are licensed.
Complaint disclosureCSLB discloses certain complaints and legal actions. Read anything listed and ask about it.

What the Aguila record shows

When we read the CSLB record on October 5, 2026, it showed AGUILA CONSTRUCTION INC, license #925152, a corporation, classification B, General Building Contractor, issued November 20, 2008 and expiring January 31, 2027, with a status of current and active. The address of record is in Simi Valley and the phone of record is (818) 355-2301.

The workers' compensation line shows an exemption on a certification of no employees, effective January 13, 2025. That is why this site never describes a company workforce. On a B contract, specialty work is done by the license holder or subcontracted to contractors licensed in that trade, and you can ask for their license numbers and check them the same way.

Why one B license for the whole project

Under Business and Professions Code section 7057, a B contractor can take the prime contract on a building project that requires at least two unrelated trades. For you that means one licensed party who signs the contract, pulls the City permit for the whole scope and answers for every inspection, instead of several separate contracts you coordinate yourself.

Questions homeowners ask

Why does the record matter more than reviews?

Reviews can be written by anyone and copied anywhere. The CSLB record is kept by the State and shows status, classification and any disclosed actions. Read it first, then read reviews.

What does the B classification not cover?

Under section 7057, a B contractor cannot take a contract for a single specialty trade, other than framing or carpentry, unless it holds that specialty license or subcontracts to someone who does. Fire protection systems and well drilling also need their own classes.

How long has Aguila been licensed?

The CSLB record shows license #925152 issued on November 20, 2008. The expiration date on the record when we read it was January 31, 2027.

Will I deal with Paul directly?

Yes. Paul Aguilar is the qualifying individual on the license and handles calls, site visits and estimates.
